About 40 members of the Refugee Rights Motion Network (RRAN) visited the remote centre in WA's Goldfields region on Friday and Saturday and some had been granted visits to detainees.
About 160 boys, largely aged sixteen to 17, are housed at the Leonora centre, awaiting results to their requests for asylum.
RRAN spokeswoman Victoria Martin-Iverson stated the boys have been locked up in the equal of a medium safety jail at the centre, about 800km from Perth.
